ANN has made my day with this great bit of news! Yoshitoshi ABe (Haibane, Lain) is developing a new series with the staff of Lain. When it comes to character designs and artwork ABe's work is second to none (I put him in the same catagory as Range Murata). Very little is known yet due to the project not being officially announced yet in Japan. Once the official announcement is made I'll put up a link to the official site. The only tidbit of information given is that it will be set in Japan's "Taishō" era.
A quick Wikipedia search suggests that the Taishō era was July 30, 1912 to December 25, 1926, mirroring the rain of a similarly named emperor. Even with this limited bit of detail this is one project that jumps to the top of the list for seasons to come.
