After the barren wasteland that was the Winter season, Spring is indeed coming in like a lion. As usual, you can find the full chart here. Let's take a look at the giant list of interesting shows airing this Spring.
RDG: Red Data Girl - A sheltered shrine maiden, one whose family holds a secret? Add in P.A. Works's obsessive attention to scenery and backgrounds? Count me in.
Ginga Kikotai Majestic Prince - I'm a sucker for giant mechs in space, even if it includes Hisashi Hirai's(Gundam Seed) character design. Hirai's characters seem to suffer from "same face" syndrome. Still, with the typical sci-fi tropes of "evolved children" and "star academies", the show itself will have to be impressive to keep interest.
Shingeki no Kyojin - Coming in from the small Wit Studio(with help from Production I.G), Kyojin is a breath of fresh air. Tetsuro Araki(Death Note) will direct this tale of a brother and his foster sister killing several stories tall giants, who feast on humans.
Kakumeiki Valvrave - Sunrise's new mecha show, which leans heavily on CGI. It's the usual "unassuming high school boy finds random mech" story, but with Ichiro Okouchi(Geass) handling series composition, it's worth a look.
Suisei no Gargantia - Production I.G and Gen Urobuchi(Fate/Zero, Madoka)? Gargantia is easily my most anticipated show of the season. During a fierce space battle "Red" is transported to Earth, which has since flooded. With no knowledge of Earth's language or culture, Red is surprised about the days of peace.
Hataraku Maou-sama! - Stop if you've heard this one. A demon king is about to conquer his alternate world, when he is defeated by a heroine, only to be transported to present day Tokyo. In order for him to conquer Japan, he has to take a job at a fast food restaurant, working his up from freelancer to employee.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru - Story from Brain's Base about an antisocial high school boy with no girlfriend of friends. Due to his outlook on life, he is made to join a "Volunteer Service Club". Shotaro Suga(Moribito, GITS SAC) is handling series composition.
Aku no Hana - Guy steals gym clothes of girl he likes, only to be caught by a girl he loathes. Said girl makes him agree to a contract, under penalty of telling the girl he likes. Hiroshi Nagahama(Detroit Metal City, Mushishi) will direct. Look for unique imagery in this one.
Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - Yes, a show about a guy who loves to cut girls hair. The guy possesses magical scissors, and the main girls hair is supposed to not able to be cut. Their meeting sparks a "murder game" to kill the girl, and they fight off attackers together. Yeah, I don't get it either.
Aside from these shows I'm interested in, many fan favorites are getting new seasons. Ore no Imouto's second season, Hayate's fourth season, Samurai Girls's second season, Azazel-San's second season, Nyaruko-san's second season, Katanagatari's second season, and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S are all airing this spring.
This spring season is heavy on movies and OVA's as well. Gundam Unicorn's sixth volume will be coming out on Blu Ray, and Hanasaku Irohan: Home Sweet Home, Steins;Gate Fuka Ryouiki no Deja vu, Saint Onii-san, and Aura: Maryuuinkouga Saigo no Tataki will be shown in theaters. The flood gates have opened this spring, as there is something for everyone.
