Following up a stellar first episode of Maria Holic is a "meet and greet" episode. More background information about the school is laid out as well as some new characters. The opening is your typical Shaft after Sayonara Sensei, great visuals. Lots of paint cans used as well as tons of different colors, great imagery. After a bit about trying to get dressed with Mariya in the room, we get to meet Kanako's homeroom teacher, Kumagai Fumi (aka Ms. Teddy Bear). Shes a younger teacher which instantly reminds me of a certain nurse from a similar Shaft show...
Still the meet and greet continues with Kiri-San, a girl with glasses and a love for books. She doesn't say much and keeps to herself. Momoi Sachi is in Kanako's class as well, but shes already been deligated to a "little sister type". Aside from some back and forth banter, nothing really happens until the ceremony for the new class of first year students. Mariya makes the first speech and surprisingly takes the blame for Kanako's grumbling stomach. Is this a bit of kindness from him? Nah, he just did it to make himself more popular. It's only then that a Mariya rival appears, "Fat As.." er Shiki Ayari. She boats a Kanako sized bust with "cone shaped" hair.
Mariya and her go way back, but that's all we get about that. The episode draws to a close with Ryuuken thinking that she did something to chase Kanako off. Before Kanako can say anything, Maryia shows up and goes on a couple minute bit about replacing items with various sea live. It's obvious by the ending that they're going to at least try to set something up between Maryia and Kanako.
