Maria Holic - Episode 3

This episode seemed to zip along compared to episode two which dragged at times. Kanako gets a brand new bag from Maryia, one that seems to have things not among the living. For those not familiar with the Catholic faith, you get a little history lesson about a rosary. Maryia decides to put Kanako through hell and make her lug around an incredibly expensive rosary given to him by his late grandmother. The whole day Kanako is scared to death of loosing it, even working out the calculations of how much it would take to pay it back in her head. Another aspect to the episode is the return of the "theater club girls" who seem to have a big thing for Ryuuken. They're the ones behind all the marine life that ends up in weird places. After arriving in class, Kanako finds "jellied meat broth"..

Wait, "jellied meat broth?". Who the hell would find that appetizing?

Anyway, the theater club girls are behind it again due to Ryuuken's favoritism of Kanako. Sachi, Kanako, and "Archery club girl" (as I affectionately call her now) don't seem to mind it too much and are enjoying it at lunch. There are a couple great little "Detective Kanako" bits where she tries to rationalize everything but ends up going completely overboard when it comes to thinking of a motive. While we get to see Kananko and Kiri in their PE uniforms, the theater club girls decide to screw with Kanako's bag, going so far as pretending to chuck Maryia's rosary out the window. Of course Kananko goes chasing after it, only for Honoka-san (one of the theater club girls) to reveal that she never threw it.

Instead she chucked out a pair of cat ears, which leads to a fun little bit with Kanako putting them on and going "Bloomers and cat ears" in a cute voice. Kiri becomes even more of an interesting character as she comes to Kanako's aid by giving her the rosary and even sticking up for her by saying that her and Kanako are dating. Of course this gives Kanako fits for all the wrong reasons. Ryuuken makes a token late episode apperance still dismayed over any harm that she has caused Kanako. Ryuuken vows to protect her and amusingly gets her chance when an Alaria monster attacks them. Of course that wonderful bit of vocal music plays during this scene.

Man I can't wait for the soundtrack.
