Beginning with "Voices of a Distant Star", and following up with "The
Place Promised in Our Early Days" and "5cm Per Second", Makoto Shinkai
has made quite a name for himself. From working as a one man team in
Voices, to stunning animation in Place Promised and 5cm, his movies have
become something to look forward to. His new movie, "Children Chase
Lost Voices from Deep Below", looks to continue that. The plot deals
again with loss, as the story centers around solitary girl named Asuna,
who goes out into the world to find a boy "again".
While Shinkai's
movies are amazing to look at, one does start to notice the common
themes in his work. While his movies tend to be incredibly depressing,
things like 5cm, they're powerful stories. If only for the amazing
animation associated with Shinkai's work, "Children Chase Lost Voices
from Deep Below" is one to keep an eye on.
