Quick Series Review: Denpa Teki na Kanojo

Series Name: Denpa Teki na Kanojo(電波的な彼女)

Episodes: 2

Plot:"Juuzawa Juu is a delinquent high school boy who just wants to be left alone. One day Ochibana Ame, who claims that she knew him from a previous life, approaches him, wanting to serve as his "knight". At first Juu wants to have nothing to do with Ame, but after a classmate is murdered, these two join forces in hunting down the killer."

Denpa Teki na Kanojo was originally released along side Volume 3 of the Kurenai manga. The OVA episodes take place in the same "universe" as Kurenai, with Juu having a direct like to Benika from Kurenai. Juu sees himself as a recluse, whose only interaction often times is proving he is the top delinquent in school. Enter Ochibana, who startles him with talks of past lives and "kings" and knights".

What follows is Juu's eventual acceptance of Ochibana, and of their "off-kilter" friendship. The first episode revolves around a series of murders, all of which Ochibana seems too eager to solve. The second episode deals with happiness, and Juu is the prime target. During the second episode, more characters are introduced, and they almost steal the show.

A high point is Brain's Base's animation, along with the haunting score. The show balances a bleak and melodramatic atmosphere, alongside knowing when to get personal. Still, there is disappointment, as Denpa Teki na Kanojo could of been so much more, aside from a solid OVA. You want to visit with Juu and Ochibana more, see them tackle other mysteries, and interact. The set of episodes brought back flashbacks of the third Kara no Kyoukai movie, as abuse and gore are used to heighten the struggles and conflict the characters face. A solid addition to the mystery genre, Denpa Teki na Kanojo is a quick watch that will stick with you for a long time.

Series Review: 4 out of 5
