Manga Pick of the Month

Ah September, the gateway to Winter and the start of school for many(not to mention yours truly's birthday!). Why not get accustomed to your new surroundings and join a club, perhaps the Kendo club? If so you'd meet the main characters in this months "Manga Pick of the Month" in "Bushidou Sixteen". No this isn't the latest Hollywood attempt to cash in on the Japan craze, but a story of two polar opposite Kendo competitors who happen to end up at the same school. Kaori is an amazingly confident Kendo practitioner until lackadaisical Sanae beats her in a local tournament. A stunned Kaori vows to do better and not be forced to quit like her older brother, even if Sanae wants to be her best friend at school.

The manga itself is more of a team effort with Ando Jiro on the art and Honda Tetsuya on the story. While Kaori looks a little boyish, her character works as a confident tomboy type. With that said the manga has a simple, yet strong, visual style to it with dark line work all around. There are only two chapters translated right now from SukiKim Scans. Chapter one is split into two parts due to it being 50+ pages.
